Two of Us
Remember the days when it was
just the two of us . . .
That special look we gave each other
            when we said "I Do."
That special day we remember most
          as if it happened yesterday.
Have we changed that much as the
              years came our way?
Maybe just a little bit bolder,
                 sassier and wise,
    Especially when our kids asked
            for some of our advice.
It's a nice thought to believe
             in what we hoped for,
But what a blessing to have a family
           that we love and adore.
We know there is no such thing
               as living a fantasy,
      Only wishful thinking to keep
                      our sanity.
We hold on to our daydreams
                of promises made,
Of future plans during the years
         that has appeared and fade.
For the dreams is like a jewel box
       that beholds treasures aside,
That held our life together with
a heart full of love and pride.
Yes, I remember when it was
just the two of us . . .
The wink of your eye and a tear
      in mine, as you held my hand;
On that day we said "I Do."
Seems like a long time ago and yet,
It's starting to feel the same way
                it did that day . . .
        We've raised our children
             and aged with grace,
     We found ourselves changing
to keep up with their pace.
Now they have grown up and have
a life of their very own,
It's just to quiet now that we are
                        all alone.
Life goes on as the empty nest sydome
                  hits upon us too,
Cause now that they are gone
it is back to being just us two.
        But our dreams will continue
as the jewel box has plenty of room,
Along with the memories of us
         being that bride and groom.
Now we look forward to new adventures
as we enter the golden years,
      For now we are grand-parents
         for our precious little dears.
Our hearts are always with them . . .       contacts and visits is an absolute must,
       Cause now it's back to being . . .
                Just the two of us.
